Chapter Eleven

Bianca

The doorman Olivia hired welcomed Kevin’s guests through the front door as another employee helped with coat check. Each guest marveled at the extensive, elegant white floral arrangement sitting on a large round wooden table near the entrance of the living room. Olivia greeted each guest and escorted them to the large patio area, overlooking the beach. A hostess then led them to their tables as waiters walked around serving champagne. All of the help wore black and white uniforms.

Jazz music filled the night, traveling in the breeze all the way to the beach. In the distance, Bianca could see the moon hovering over the waters. Its reflection appeared to be dancing to the sound of the music with each movement of the waves.

Lana’s menu for the dinner party sat typeset in elegant script on each table. The guests were being served mixed green salads, smoked duck breast topped with a blueberry reduction and poached pears. In addition, there were sweet potatoes, carrots, baby corn, and asparagus spears. She’d covered both meat and vegetarian palates and for dessert, she prepared her family’s favorite cheesecake recipe. An endless tray of shrimp cocktail and white and red wine floated around as well.

Kevin arrived downstairs wearing a black suit with a light blue button down shirt and a black tie accented in patterns of white and light blue.

Bianca smoothed her silver and black cocktail dress and noticed her brother beaming; she was elated for him. A gray haired woman walked up to Kevin, and Bianca recognized her as Mrs. Betty Fletcher, the wife of one of Kevin’s partners.

She was close enough to witness Betty clasp her hands together and pronounce, “Kevin, this is too much! You’ve got to give me the contact info for your decorator before I leave. Everything is amazing.”

Bianca went to her brother after the lady walked away. “I’m so happy for you, baby brother.”

He smiled down at her, “I’m happy that you and your girls saved the day for me.” Kevin grabbed a champagne flute from one of the servers walking by. He took a sip and almost choked on the bubbles.

Bianca turned to see what caught her brother's attention. Lana had entered the party wearing a black strapless fitting silk cocktail dress with a beautiful diamond necklace and her hair in a sophisticated bun. Two strands of hair hung loose on each side of her face. Her makeup was flawless, and her bold red lip color stood out. She was gorgeous, and Bianca could see why her brother was suddenly struck dumb.

Jo’Yanna followed Lana inside; the young woman was adorned in a flowing, white after five dress with her hair in a similar bun as Lana’s. Jo’Yanna looked like a mixture of an angel and a princess. Even though she hadn’t yet had her birthday makeover, she was well on her way.

Kevin’s eyes remained glued to Lana as he took another sip of his champagne.

Lana saw Kevin watching her. She pushed one of the strands of her hair behind her ear as she looked down and smiled.
